does anyone watch the show Shot At Love With Tila Tequilla? i've only watched a few episodes, so i don't really have much of an opinion yet....
i've heard a few "reviews" from friends though: some think it puts bisexuals in a poor light by making us look like wild and crazy unstable punk ass sluts (and perhaps some of us are......so what, right?). they say is also makes things way too black and white, and real sexuality of any kind is fluid and in shades of gray. i agree with this.
some of my friends however, say that its a great show because at least it puts bisexuality in the mainstream where it can be discussed and hopefully flourish. They also say that it shows that a bisexual person can commit, and it's not all about sex. i tend to agree with this too....
but, it's not so simple.......right? if nothing else, it's an interesting show.
i was curious about other opinions on the show. so lets discuss!! :)

11/25"does anyone watch the show Shot At Love With Tila Tequilla?"
Yep.
"i've heard a few "reviews" from friends though: some think it puts bisexuals in a poor light by making us look like wild and crazy unstable punk ass sluts (and perhaps some of us are......so what, right?). they say is also makes things way too black and white, and real sexuality of any kind is fluid and in shades of gray. i agree with this."
l agree with the last part, and that it is too black and white. l don't think it necessarily puts us in poor light, but there's a prevailing 'she can't decide which she likes better and is confused' theme, and l don't think an honest bisexual is going to pick one and stick with it. l also don't agree with the fact that she got a bunch of lesbians (who are notorious for having challenging and competitive relationships when dating bis). l don't think it was fair to the women, because she originally led them to believe she was gay. l think she should have brought in a bunch of BI women, who understand her predicament. But then, maybe there wouldn't be all the drama, which every reality show clearly thrives on. Obviously, the men, while dealing with some competitive feelings, weren't near as put out by the idea of dating a bi woman, so l think they're better off. Even though l like Tila based on what l've seen of her, l don't respect the lack of honesty with the lesbians of the group.
"some of my friends however, say that its a great show because at least it puts bisexuality in the mainstream where it can be discussed and hopefully flourish. They also say that it shows that a bisexual person can commit, and it's not all about sex. i tend to agree with this too...."
That's the main reason l like it. l think bisexuals DO need a little more recognition, and l think it's good that this IS a show where she's looking to commit to *someone* despite the challenge of liking both genders. l guess l just wish that it didn't have the requisite stupid drama that accompanies every reality show, and ends up distorting the purpose, the participants, and the end results.
"but, it's not so simple.......right? if nothing else, it's an interesting show. "
lt certainly is interesting, and it's interesting to see the gender-war challenges, and where the men and women excel or get out of their comfort zone in ways you wouldn't expect. But again, it's a reality show. lt's NEVER what they're portraying, and there's ALWAYS some very creative editing required to keep the ratings up. -

Re: Shot at Love....
11/25I've been watching it, I admit it, despite giving the girl who recruited for the show on Tribe a bit of a hard time when she was doing it. A lot of people did, but she was recruiting for lesbians and it riled a bunch of people because of the idea that it was for the pleasure of a bunch of men and not realistic. I was a bit pleased in the bi angle, but was surpised that so many lesbians didn't stomp off when they found out (altho one, Lala, did). I'm looking forward to next week when Tila meets the fam because the one guy's mom totally is disgusted by her. It's amusing. I think I'm going to be annoyed if in the end she picks a man, because it will just reinforce the idea that bi women will always choose a man in the end when in a relationship with another girl. -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/25One more thing, while I've never been one to be attracted to butchier women, I find Dani to be attractive in her personality and because she's interesting. She is pretty, if she would only do something with that hair.
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/26I think I'm going to be annoyed if in the end she picks a man, because it will just reinforce the idea that bi women will always choose a man in the end when in a relationship with another girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
lt's pretty much a fact that 80% of bi women prefer men. l don't think that's reinforcing a negative. When you're bi, you usually have a preference. l don't like the idea that it reinforces the idea that a bi woman should choose between one or the other, thereby neglecting whichever one she didn't choose and implying they didn't still do something profound for her.
But l LOVE me some Dani. l'm not surprised she's the favorite of the group in general. She's certainly mine so far. Now THAT'S a perfect blend of male and female, far as l'm concerned. -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/26I wonder if Tila would rather be poly but she's either putting on a show or she really does think she wants just one person in her life. And as far as what you said perhaps it's not "reinforcing a negative" but I think that most people who don't understand bi's would say "oh, she'll choose a man in the end" and I would just prefer she shock people. Actually, I would prefer she end up with Dani and surprise everyone. It seemed from the footage of next epsiode her family was the only one cool with it anyway. I'm curious, did Tila really expect that to go prancing into middle America announcing Her Royal Biness that she wouldn't come up against major prejudice, esp. when it has to do with mommy's little boys? Or was that just for shock effect? -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/26i was wonderin' about the poly angle as well. Tila seems to get upset with the jealous contestants who whine about having to "share" her. Tila seems the most confortable being in the middle of 2 or 3 contestants she feels she can be cuddly with, and who *don't* get all jealous.....ya know, the cool cats who just go with the flow ;)
now, it IS a contest and a TV show; there HAS to be drama, and there HAS to be one winner, but in reality, Tila really does seem to be the most comfortable in a small group of chill people, etc.....
i bet she really is bi-poly ;)
and i hope Dani wins ;) -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/26perhaps she is more poly - but we have a bisexual on tv, I don't think they would push the envelope with poly too. lol
.....besides IF she was poly I don't think this group would do well with sharing her.
On a side note has anyone seen the program There is Something about Miriam? Another out of the box love-reality tv series....... -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27Tell us about it, Jodie, l haven't heard of it. What's it about? Channel it's on? -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
12/11It is on the Fox reality channel.
And I won't spoil the ending but what was disturbing was the reaction of the guys when they revealed she was born a male. I know TG have a hard time, but these guys cracked up laughing, it was terrible. Now the entire show was built on this secret, and of course it would be a shock - but ti was just harsh I thought.
Has anyone else seen it?
Re: Shot at Love....
11/26I have a feeling the prancing was for tv ratings and shock effect.....and a bit of a wild streak perhaps?
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27"I wonder if Tila would rather be poly but she's either putting on a show or she really does think she wants just one person in her life. "
hate to burst your Tila Tequila bubble, kids, but its just a TV show
I heard her talking recently on a radio show, and she was being her usual flirty self. the radio host was asking if this relationship is true love (since now of course the show is over and done, in real time). She was like .... well, you know how it is out here, so much to choose from , we'll have to see how it goes etc....
not to be mean to the contestants, but this woman can get whoever she wants. my guess is she's not going to settle for some mainstream joe/joess from mid-america. she's making a ton of dough, and getting tons of exposure to boot. she's a smart girl, but i really doubt she's there to find her one and only.
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27"I wonder if Tila would rather be poly but she's either putting on a show or she really does think she wants just one person in her life."
lt's hard to tell. l think the former, but maybe SHE thinks the latter, maybe because she's not aware the former is possible.
"And as far as what you said perhaps it's not "reinforcing a negative" but I think that most people who don't understand bi's would say "oh, she'll choose a man in the end" and I would just prefer she shock people."
LOL! l hope she does too. :)
"Actually, I would prefer she end up with Dani and surprise everyone."
Me too.
Maybe she sincerely hoped it would be okay, but again, it's a reality show, yano....they're *always* for the shock effect to some degree. That's what l hate about this particular show, cuz l wanna see the REAL, goddammit! l'm INVESTED!!! lol
Re: Shot at Love....
01/17I got to know the show "Shot At Love" by my bisexual friend at (bimingle.com).I love watching this kind of shows, but I dont think any thing about them is what it is supposed to be. Every single one turns out the same way, they always split up, and there is always another season. Funny how no one seems to torn up about the breakups
Re: Shot at Love....
11/25I must admit I am a closet reality show junkie, and was delighted to see how this would all pan out. As a bisexual the concept is interesting, and it gets some of our issues out there. Of course it is a reality show and we only watch for the drama and train wrecks, lets face it.
Overall I am pleased with the show, and surprized that more lesbians didn't walk off in protest - that was a shock to me.
I too have to say that I am usually into lipstick bi/lesbians myself, but find myself attracted to Dani. I guess we never can put our likes and dislikes into just one box as it does limit us. Opens my eyes to other possibilities I guess, fascinating.
My prediction: Dani and Bobby make it to the end. The others are just not a good fit if you ak me. Personally I am an not sure who I'd prefer to win at this point - maybe that is true to MY bi side. LOL
Agreed. It also made me rethink the possibilities. She made me laugh when she said that if Tila came with her to work the guys she works with would think she's a pimp. :-)
good call. i watched last nite and that tall blonde chick was just asking to be given the boot, with all her nastiness and bad blood.....or maybe they just quoted her at those times to make her look bad. those reality shows are so fake, according to people who talk about them after they are over.
my vote is the girl, that guy is way too possessive for her. he gets super jealous and i dont think thats gonna fly with ms. tequila. -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
12/11This will sound terrible, but the blondes ears were distracting me, they were just too big for her face. Add to that she was a moron, I couldn't wait to see her go.
-
I've never watched it.
11/26All I know is the capsule description on the cable program guide thingie. My take from that was that this was another silly "reality" show like "The Real World" and "Big Brother." The only one of those that I like is "Drawn Together," 'cause it is a funny and dirty parody.
But now, damn all of you, I'm going to have to tune in! ;-)
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27I think the show's rather unfair.
Tila's a bisexual, but nobody else on the show is (or if they are, they're hiding it pretty well). So it necessarily invites conflict, because the girls and the guys *feel* that have no way to compete with each other.
If it was real life, Tila, looking for love, would just look for some fun bi friends who are capable of handling their jealously, and fall in love from there. -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27Also, the whole lesbians vs straight guys thing is unbalanced. For one thing, assuming none of them is actually bi (which is another topic I won't get into), the guys might be attracted to the lesbians but not vice-versa, whereas the lesbians may be attracted to one another. They avoided that dynamic but I was wondering if we would see any of the lesbian contestants getting into each other... -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27my honest guess is that someone else approached her with the idea for the show, and she said yes because of the $$$
but i really don't know how all that TV biz works, so.....just a guess there. lol
i still love the show (trash TV is my guilty pleasure), and i'm still happy that Bi's are getting mainstream media exposure
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27They didn't avoid the subject. The only rule was that no one else hooked up with each other, but early on one of the girls (supposedly les) messed around with one of the guys under the sheets; she also kissed one of the girls. Another girl was constantly harrassing one of the guys about "wanting her." One of the guys smacked one of the girls on the ass and was slapped pretty hard. -
-
Re: Shot at Love....
11/27True, they didn't avoid it entirely. What surprised me was the supposed lesbian "messing around" with boys! But they avoided it more than I was expecting, I guess I should say. Still it seems like it's not nearly as balanced as the premise appears on first glance, since any of the female contestants might be attracted to one another, but not the male contestants.
Re: Shot at Love....
11/28i still love the show (trash TV is my guilty pleasure), and i'm still happy that Bi's are getting mainstream media exposure "
i watched the show last nite and its true that she is totally out - it is great that she is so open about her bisexuality to all the parents and trying to nomalize it. altho from another perspective she is using it for the shock factor, trying to see how far she can push things. either way, it is great that its being talked about so openly.
another thing i noticed is that she is NOT just looking for a sex partner. it seems like every time anyone gets overly sexual with her, they get the boot. which is kind of amazing, given what a tease she is. but its great b/c most people, mainstream men at least, think female bisexuality is their easy ticket to a three-some. so even if she's just in it for the money and exposure, at least bisexuality is being portrayed as a viable option for a "real" relationship. -
Re: Shot at Love....
11/28I imagine at the end of the show, she's sitting there with the winner like "Ok now what? That was a weird experience." The problem is that to take that experience and turn it into an actual relationship, I don't really buy that it's doable. They may have sex, but I imagine in a few months she'll be off looking for someone else and have broken the heart of whomever vied for her and won. -
Re: Shot at Love....
12/04"The problem is that to take that experience and turn it into an actual relationship, I don't really buy that it's doable."
Why? Without the cameras, the extra contenders, and the drama, l'd think it'd be easier.
Again, why? -
11/28Do you all see the Iliano wear ad with the girl with the green outfit and blue hair? Man she's cute. I loves me some nutty creative 25ish girls. ;-)
OK, I gave it 15 minutes. Saw the chocolate competition, got to check out the cute baby butch.
Maybe if Dani and Tila and the Italian dude all came over and did a chocolate-covered lapdance on me, I'd watch it enough to actually get into it and care about the characters. But I'm afraid there's just not enough there to hold my interest.
PS: there's a lot about Tila and the show on Wikipedia.
In other "Tila" News:
11/29I heard Keith Olberman talking about this this evening:
EAST BREMERTON
A 19-year-old Chehalis man who reportedly punched a police officer in the face multiple times Tuesday did so because "Tila Tequila would not respond to his e-mail" and because the officer took the man's nunchaku, according to Bremerton police reports.
Officers were called to a Perry Avenue shopping center shortly after 5 p.m. for a report of shoplifters at a grocery store, reports said. Two men, the 19-year-old and an 18-year-old Mossyrock man, had apparently stuffed items into their clothes but then put them back on the shelves, reports said.
The store's manager and the police still wanted to talk to the pair. After a search of their car, which the 18-year-old consented to, the officer found a nunchaku weapon, which he confiscated as a dangerous weapon.
The 19-year-old, after being patted down by the officer, turned around and punched him in the face, reports said. He and another officer pursued the man on foot, and when they caught up to the man, he punched the same officer again, breaking his glasses, reports said.
The officer delivered several "palm" and "knee strikes" to the 19-year-old's "facial area" before another officer could apply his Taser and place the man into handcuffs.
Both the 19-year-old and officer were treated for injuries.
While driving the man to jail, the officer asked the man why he was mad. The man replied that the MTV reality show star wouldn't reply to his e-mail and that the officer took his nunchaku, reports said.
The man was booked into the Kitsap County jail on suspicion of assault of an officer and possession of a dangerous weapon. His bail was set at $100,000.
Olberman's comment: "If you've seen this show, you'll know that the cops should have taken away his TV set, too." -
two words about this show....TRAIN WRECK.
Okay, I'd put most reality tv in the same bucket, but this seems worse than most. Or maybe it's just me..... -
-
Not to be redundant, but....why is it worst than most?
-
-
You could only say it's the worst if you haven't followed it. It is interesting just coz there's been no real good representation of us on regular TV before. It's pretty refreshing (as opposed as I was to it when it began, I'm surpised to actually be saying that).
-
... partly because I find the premises bugger credulity (one of my favorite malapropisms) and I can't really identify with many of the participants' motivations, at least partially for generational reasons there are entirely different attitudes.
So speaking strictly ex-cathedra (from my navel) I can't see that this one is any lamer than any of the others.
